I know I should go to a salon but I can't afford it and have had my hair ruined by salons everytime I went so don't bother telling me to go to one. And please only answer if you have had experience with this or are a professional. I don't need a lecture on why you shouldn't dye your hair.
I bleached my bangs and they turned out streaked yellow/orange/white. I have chocolate brown hair with red and lots of blonde highlights. I know that an ash color will probably turn green so should I look for a neutral color? I want to keep it a lighter brown, I will probably just lowlight them instead of completely dying over them. I was thinking a medium or light neutral brown.

I recently had the streaky orange/yellow look on my entire head! Once you've bleached your hair to that point, you've removed the red tones and need to re-deposit them or else a brown dye will turn out green. Personally, I used a demi-permanent dark red color (to avoid frying my hair further with ammonia), waited a week, then just today used a medium brown color, also demi-permanent, over the red. It came out a nice dark auburn for me, which was just what I wanted! If you really have your heart set on staying in the range of a light brown, you could feasibly select a light color that has warm, reddish tones, and hope for the best..but you run the risk of having a greenish or grayish tone to your hair. I'd say darker is safer in this case. Good luck!

to be honest with you right now whatever color you put in is going to make it look greenish. I had this happen before and need to say i had no choice but to go to a salon and have it taken care of. they had to put a red pigment back into my hair first and then recolor it. I don't know what else to say, except i have been there before.
Good luck.

I also have brown hair and it is very hard to get the colours just right.
If it has turned out streaked you should find the darkest brown you can stand and recolour. Do not use black.
It will be hard to get rid of the red overtone......Brown is the only way to to go.... and remember as dark as you can stand.
NO chesnut or anything that has a red tone to it or the red you now have will be a dark red.
Just remember Ash and Red are BAD BAD BAD....
Best of Luck

Get the Lo-real creme colour. It comes in a tube. Go with a light brown. Check the colour chart available in the store.
