How to straighten my hair?

im a white man with pretty short hair (few inches long) and i have very odd hair. its textured like african hair, and is curly. whenever i try and grow out my hair it poofs up kinda like a jew fro.

i've been told by some people that using a relaxer will make my hair straight and fine. other people told me its just going to make my hair fall out and burn my scalp.

what should i do to get straight hair?

you could shave it really short. then you wouldn't have to worry bout it. the relaxer will ruin your hair. you could get a flat iron, and straighten it rvery day. just be sure to put product on first. by the way you don't need to buy the expensivehair products. rub a bit of vaseline in your hair. thst will protect it

what you could do when you grow it out is by a thin sized straightener and I don't know what your hair looks like but you should do that and put it on medium-high heat and then straighten your hair and then like brush it down. I think that would look good... good luck

wether you get a relaxer or not, you're hair will always be curly. it's in your jeans... the only thing i can think of is to just play with it. you can shave it off and get a fade, or you can put styling products in it to keep it tamed. some chicks dig curly hair just so you know....

There are a lot of different perms out there designed for different textures of hair. You should visit a salon that caters to Hispanic clientele. I once made the mistake of having my hair "relaxed" (or so I thought) while I was in Venezuela. I am Black American. The strength of the perm was not sufficient for my hair texture. It is ideal for curl patterns like your own though. If you grow it out enough you can have it blown out at just about any salon but the resulting straightness is temporary - lasting until your next wash or until you sweat it out. Don't let anyone give you a relaxer that would also be used on black american hair. I think that would be too harsh for your hair. Relaxers can have a drying effect on the hair - since you probably wash your hair more often then the typical black american woman that gets her hair relaxed this could be a real problem. Excess washing along with the relaxer will leave your hair dry - you will have breakage and this will lead to frizz. My stylist tells me to try to wash my hair no more than once every 7 days. That sounds nasty to a lot of non-black people but I swear it is normal. Frequent washing is ill advised with the relaxer.

My professional advice: if you are going to try a relaxer, I would have a salon do it. If you've never done a home relaxer, you should know that the active ingredient is Sodium Hydroxide (lye) and it should be applied and smoothed in no longer that 20 mins. And when rinsing you should keep the hair as strait as possible any bend or crinkle will stry that way, after rinsing out the relaxer thoroughly you will have to use a neutralizing shampoo , to remove excess residue and to stop the action of the straitener. For doing it yourself, you may want to shampoo with the neutralizing shampoo twice. each time leaving the shampoo on about 5 to 10 mins. follow the instructions as close as you can.. Yes relaxers help, but, going from one hair texture to the exact opposite can be a real shock.
