Is there anything that can help this strange hair problem?

Plain and simple, I am a caucasian woman, but I have African American looking/feeling hair. Back as far as I can remember and NO matter the length, if you run your hands over my hair, once you reach the base of my skull, it turns to a straw like texture. I've had my hair as short as Demi Moore's in Ghost and as long as hitting the backs of my knees. I HAVE NOT used styling products, dye, etc. in 10+ yrs, I've tried tons of products, practically LIVED at Sally Beauty Supply, and I've asked every stylist I've ever been to for advice and NOTHING has EVER worked. My hair, really and truly, looks like it belongs on an African American person! I currently use the Pantene Daily Moisture Renewal line and it's the only thing that has ever even made a dent in this problem. The only time my hair ever looks like a white girls' is if I straighten it with a straightening iron, which I only do1-3 times a yr., for special occasions. Any ideas? Surely I CAN NOT be the only girl with this problem!

yah you sure are not the only one with this problem.. you said you have tried different products and they dint work.. even if they do you got to use them almost everyday.. i suggest you to go for japanese straightening which stays for 6months and you hair surely looks like a white girls for these 6months.. later you can go for touch ups and have the same forever if you like it.. it has least maintanance... you will love it... try to find abt the same from any hair salon...

gud luck :)

Why don't you straighten it more often. My hair is not like that but i still straighten it every day. Just use some sort of heat protection stuff before.

You've got two options. One is to get a chemical relaxer and the other is to flat iron it more often. Chemical relaxers are nice but it is a caustic chemical that has to be re-applied to the new growth every 6-8 weeks. The flat iron offers a more temporary solution and may take some work but we're talking about your hair. It's not gonna maintain itself. Both can dry your hair and damage your tips eventually but by that time you probably need a trim anyway. Good luck

I would not use pantene for starters because it puts a wax coat on your hair that you will have a hard time getting off the longer you use it.. I would buy garniea fruictic sleek and shine oil to make your hair smooth and soft and definately straighten it every day.. GOOD LUCK!!!

I'm not a hair expert, but experience teaches lessons applying to many kinds of products will only aggravate the problem due to it chemical composition please give your hair a break. Try using the same range of product but note that there are product for regular and super textured hair. Always condition your hair after exposures of any kind.Organic products tend to yield better results especially the mayonnaise. Hope this helps!
