How can I get the dandruff out of my cats hair?

I just went over to see my cat and she has white things all over her hair. Im assuming it's dandruff. Whats the easiest way to get it off?

I had to groom my kitty when she had "flea dirt" (she was stray).

I brushed her then I bathed her with a nice gentle shampoo.

Try brushing first and another good thing I have used is those "kitty bath wipes" just like babywipes but they clean your furry friend without the trauma of a running water bath.

My cat had a lot of problems with her hair and the only thing I could find to help was some shampoo with oatmeal. They sell it at any pet store or walmart. Good Luck

I use dandruff shampoo--Selsun Blue never Head and Shoulders because the zinc is not good for cats. It is very good for their coats.

Make sure it isn't fleas though.

the best way is to prevent it--it means they aren't getting the right food. try a higher quality canned food, it has more oils in it that is good for the cat's coat %26amp; skin. one small can a day should do the trick. nothing really helps externally, and many shampoos will only make it worse.

I second the suggestion to switch to a high-quality canned food (make any switch gradually to avoid stomach upset). After I started feeding my cats Wellness canned food several years ago, their dandruff went away completely, they stopped getting hairballs, and their fur has become amazingly soft, shiny and plush. Canned food has a bettter balance of the nutrients cats need than dry food does - see this link for info: http://www.catinfo.org

Brushing your cat may help in the meantime - if your cat is resistant to brushing, you can try using a grooming glove (a glove that fits over your hand and has rubber nubs on it to brush the cat's skin %26amp; fur). Bathing may help, but be sure to use a shampoo designed for cats - don't use a human shampoo on your cats.

Another issue to consider is that it's possible your cat may have a health issue if the dandruff is extreme - it's a good idea to take her to the vet for a checkup to make sure she's healthy, especially if she's older.

Add a little olive oil to her food or a few drops of glavaderm pet vitamins.

Brush your kitty regularly and the oils from its coat will help solve the problem.

Don't worry about getting it out; change her diet and get rid of it totally!

I switched my 2 cats from dry to an all canned diet, and Poppy's flakes cleared right up. She does still have a little bit; it came back once winter hit full force and it's quite dry here.

But it really made the difference.

Any canned food is better than any dry food, but here's a list of some recommended brands.
